Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT)


Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) is a university-level institution in the South-East of Ireland with over 10,000 students and 1000 staff. The Telecommunications Software & Systems Group (WIT-TSSG) at Waterford Institute of Technology is Ireland’s largest research centre in the Information and Communication Technologies domain. The TSSG ethos is to build links between academic and industrial research through the creation of a balanced portfolio of activity in basic research, applied research and pre-product development. Initial work was on telecoms network management, but this has expanded since then to include mobility, trust and security, autonomics, software development tools, pervasive computing and multimedia. The group has a ten year track record in research under Europe’s IST/ICT framework programmes, with over 30 such projects to date. WIT have been involved in a number of Security, Trust and Dependability projects including: Think-Trust (FP7 CA): The main goal is to propose recommendations and priorities for future trust and security research.  It manages two working groups of experts as part of its support for its Advisory Board RISEPTIS – Research and Innovation in Security, Privacy and Trustworthiness in the Information Society – that has recently published its report Trust in the Information Society, expected to have significant impact on policy in the area. SecurIST (FP6 CA): Co-ordination project (led by WIT-TSSG) elaborating the roadmap for FP7 on all aspects security based ICT, including dependability and trust, and including International Co-operation. Through their role in the SecurIST project, WIT was the co-organiser of the successful EU-US Summit Series Workshops, which led to the formation of the INCO-TRUST project.

Università degli Studi di Trento


The University of Trento ranks consistently among the top Italian universities in recent CENSIS surveys. It is also one of the most international Universities in Europe, with a large number of joint degrees in all disciplines with counterparts Austria, France and Germany. It hosts an EU Marie Curié Chair in Networking and Security, and is a co-recipient of an EU approved Erasmus Mundus Masters in Informatics (jointly with the Universities of Aachen and Edinburgh). It has a formalized long-term collaboration with Indian Universities and Research Centers through the ITPAR (India-Trentino) research center and a large number of PhD and Postdoc students from all over the world. Trento will host a Microsoft Research center and an Italian-Indian research center on web services. Its Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI) organizes an International Doctorate School ( /) with about 90 students of whom 50% come from outside the European Union. In the last years the department has raised a number of EU and national research projects and a number of industrial projects. The key personnel of this proposal is currently involved in EU FP7-ICT-IP SecureChange (as coordinator) and EU FP7-ICT- IP Master .

These centres are usually co-located with academic partners and focused on specific research topics. Depending on the particular needs of the projects, SAP Research will consider to distribute work packages among its locations in order to engage researchers with the required expertise.
